The Cheerless Goose

Friends

The sun and the moon are my friends
Hello and goodbye
Each day and night

The sun, an eager golden retriever
Invigorated to lick my face with light
Now the moon, shy to come
Yet, when morning comes, not ready to leave

Staying maybe to chat or exchange
Pleasantries with the sun
And now slinking back to bed
Charging again for another nightshift
Each night, waxing or waning as it wills
More and more unlike itself everyday
And the sun, constant as can be
New each day, and happy to see me
